'Westerner' First Might Start Trend
If no news is good news then old news must certainly be stale news. Or so it seems with the Westerner. With the exception of the story on Baccalaureate, the stories that fill the Westerner's pages are stories of events that have or will happen. In short, nothing that has appeared on these four pages was a first or what is known in newspaper lingo as a "scoop." Nothing, that is, until this issue.

The results of the vote on Baccalaureate were saved so the Westerner could carry the story first, a fact which was much appreciated by the staff.
If more club sponsors, teachers, and school officials would follow this example of Mr. James Coburn, principal, and save some of these stories for the paper it would make our job easier and more enjoyable.

We don't like to put out old news any more than students and faculty like to read it. It would be nice to see someone read the paper and say, "I didn't know that." That's the job of a newspaper‑to inform. It's not a history book.

Hopefully, this "first" will start a trend. It might even make some new people want to read the paper.
