Girls Get Slow Start
The girls' badminton team lost to Maine South last week, Thursday, February 28, 5-1 in both the varsity and junior varsity divisions, though they had won over Niles East February 15, 4-3 in varsity and 5-2 in junior varsity.
The next home meets are March 12, against Niles West, and March 28, against Barrington High. All meets are held in C‑wing gym.
In the first basketball game of the season the girls lost to Wheeling 73-33 in the varsity game. The next game was much better with a win over Maine East. The score was 39-35 in the varsity game, and 35-26 in the junior varsity game. The high point scorers were Kim Tuttle with 21 and Carol Jenson with 8 points. The junior varsity was Judy Heyse with 9 points.
The girls on the varsity team are Monica Becker '77, Ruth Bernick '75, Kathy Bogner '77, Maureen Brock '75, Carol Jensen '74, Sheila McNulty '75, Karen Neetz 74, Sue Sharbaugh '77, and Kim Tuttle '74.
Junior varsity includes Gail Bellon '77, Kim Friend '75, Jan Heyse '75, Judy Heyse '76, Cathy Huntoon '77, Paulette Loch '76, Nancy Parrotte '77, Louise Sieben '77, and JoAnne Stanonis '76.
Ms. Connie Bauman, the girls' coach, mentioned that this is the girls' first year as a basketball team; this is a learning year. Ms. Bauman said, "I think we'll do very well in our division, and we're aiming for the league meet."
