Maine West Hosts AFS Student
Maine West's foreign exchange student this year is 18‑year‑old Tor Petter Johnsen of Drammen, Norway.

Tor has one sister, who is 22, and one brother, who is nine. Drammen is 25 miles outside Oslo and has a population close to Des Plaines'. Drammen lies in a valley on both sides of a river.

Tor's hobbies are playing basketball and reading. He has been studying English for seven years. Tor's favorite subject is calculus.

Tor's previous school is small compared to Maine West with an enrollment of 700. Tor said that the pace is much faster here, because of all the running between classes. He also said that there are more younger teachers than in his previous school. He likes the school and all the friendly students here.

Tor likes the United States and everything is similar to Norway except the cars. He said that the difference in the cars is that they are much larger here.
Tor is living with the MacDonalds. He has two host sisters, who are in college, and a host brother, Greg, who is a senior at Maine West. Tor has been staying with the MacDonalds since August 8 and went on vacation with them to Colorado.

After this year is over Tor plans to go to a university and then get a job in the field of science and math.
