English Department to Sponsor Film Festival

Maine West's English Department is sponsoring the first District 207 film festival. Any student enrolled in District 207 or a 1974 June graduate may enter. Each student may submit one to three films. Films can be 8mm, super 8, or 16mm, black and white or color, silent or sound. Films can not be longer than four reels or 200 feet. Films and cassette tapes, if used, should be submitted to the head of the English Department by November 22, 1974, and should have the student's name, school, and film title.

The entrance fee is $.50 for each film entered. Entries must also submit a brief synopsis of the film. Judges will be chosen from District 207 faculty and students. Films will be shown in the A‑wing gym on Saturday, December 7, 1974. Prizes and awards will be given in the following categories: animated, visual effects, documentary, adaptation of a poem or short story, and original screenplay.

Applications can be picked up at the English Office.

Westerner Wins Award

The Westerner has won a 1974 International First Place Award for being a newspaper of substantial achievements. The award was given by Quill and Scroll, the international honorary society for high school journalists. The paper was judged on consistency and confirmity to Quill and Scroll standards.

Yearbook Pictures Taken

Juniors, sophomores, and freshmen had their yearbook pictures taken this past Wednesday and Thursday. Members of the faculty are having their pictures taken today. September 30 and October 1, 3, and 4 are the last days for seniors to have their pictures taken. If a senior had his picture taken by another studio, it must be turned in to Mr. Walker by November 28. Mikva Comes to Maine West

Abner Mikva, Democrat candidate for the tenth congressional district came to speak at Maine West on September 23.
