Creating a Newspaper
October 6-12 represents Newspaper Week '74 during which more than 1,770 daily and 9,000 weekly newspapers published are paid tribute. It is established primarily to show the important role a newspaper plays in a community and the relationship between personal freedom and a free press.

The Westerner, like other newspapers, publishes news of community and school interest. Our paper contains information about coming events to inform students of activities they might be interested in attending and full coverage of events already held.

Creativity is another goal of a newspaper. Through photography, cartoons, poems, and short stories students can create what they feel within themselves.
The Westerner invites any student who wishes to share his creativity with others to bring his thoughts to R-210.

By writing a letter to the editor and through open columns students can express their opinions. Every letter to the editor must be signed, and names may not be withheld upon request. The Westerner like all other newspapers, has the last word on all matters. We have the right to edit anything that is submitted for publication.

The Westerner does play an important role in a student's life as does a daily newspaper. This year before criticizing the school newspaper make a suggestion; they're always welcome.
