Autumn Season Welcomes Freshmen
By PAUL LORENZ
Freshmen, those frantic beings who invade high school every fall, are quite often noted for being small, for losing the grip on their books at the most inopportune moments, for getting lost frequently because of misinformation, and generally for being very handy to have around the cafeteria if you want something done.
Just as the falling of leaves signals the beginning of autumn, the falling of books signifies the arrival of the freshmen and the beginning of a new school year. The freshmen soon discover that the hand of the upperclassmen are faster and much quicker than their own.
The freshmen are often awed by the size of their fellow classmen and of the school itself and are, therefore, easily misguided by the older group. They learn quickly that certain upperclassmen are not to be trusted.
Ah, but beware, oppressors of freshmen, sophomores in particular, the freshman whose books you dump today may be the one who beats you out for a spot on the basketball team two years from now.
