VOL. XVI, NO. 1
SEPTEMBER 27, 1974
Student Council
Student Council president, Jeff Dennis '75, has already begun his "Program for Progress" for the 1974-75 school year. Committees have been set up, and they are busily making plans for the projects underway. One of Student Council's major activities is this year's V-Show, S*M*A*S*H, which is co-directed by Lorrie Swanson '75 and Bruce Costagli '75. The business manager of V-Show is Carol Kent '75. The teacher-director of V-Show is Mr. Bruce Nelson. Tryouts were already held and rehearsals have begun this week.

Tina Voelker '76 is chairman of the organizations committee, which is handling Homecoming and the sale of Christmas wreaths. Public relations is headed up by Bob Kravas '75. Bob is the person to see for "Dial Tones" and calendars. The social committee is run by Kathy Steinken '75. Her committee is in charge of V‑Show and the Winter Formal, which will be held sometime around Christmas. The Service Committee will handle Teacher Appreication Day. This year's service committee chairman is Mark Duntemann '76.
Also, with the help of President's Council, both organizations will be holding a "Special Admirer's Day" (February 14) and again will bring us a "Super Saturday" sometime during the spring. Jeff, along with the help office‑president, Georgiana Carison '75; secretary, Sandy Sadler '75; and treasurer, Ken Wenz '75; with sponsors, Miss Kathryn Mularkey and Mr. Eryin Geisler, hope to achieve some of the following: National Election Day declared a school holiday, asking parents for help in eliminating final exams (in special cases), and a revised physical education program.

"I feel this is one of the best Student Councils Maine West has ever had. We have over 100 student representatives already," Jeff Dennis said. "Although most demands in curriculum and privilege changes are not passed as successfully as we would like them to be, most social activities are approved by Mr. Burk." Jeff made one last statement that perhaps sums up Student Council's efforts in the best way:

"Student Council is an organization that tries!"
