Did you know that three Maine West seniors were chosen as National Merit semifinalists. The students are Robert Roberts, Douglas Merkel, and Steven Chamberlin.
The Merit program semifinalists were the highest scorers in each state on the 1973 Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The test was administered to over one million students in about 17,000 schools nationwide.
Did you know that Douglas Merkel '75 was recently notified that he is to be featured in the eighth annual edition of "Who's Who Among American High School Students," the largest student award publication in the nation.

Did you know that Nina Kleinhans '75 and Therese Gano '75 went to Illinois Girl's State in Normal this summer. Nina was chosen by the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, and Therese was chosen by the Skokie American Legion Post.
This summer program gives each girl experience in many political fields. Both girls really became involved. Therese ran for mayor, and Nina ran for lieutenant governor.
Therese went on to the National Girls' State in Florida.
