Girls' Sports Featured In Fall
Archery, swimming, and tennis are the sports which make up the girls' fall sports schedule, with the archery team having opened its season on September 19. In this meet Maine West's archers were victorious over Sacred Heart, 20‑0.
Kathy Dueball '75 led the team in scoring in this meet with 380, followed by Barb Breider '76 with 360, Maripat Klein '75 with 356, and Sandy Sadler '75 with 346. The highlight of this meet was Kathy Dueball's perfect end, which is 16 consecutive bull's‑eyes shot from 20 yards away.
The swimming team's top returnees this season include Betty Lou Evans '75 in the butterfly, Sue Bowersox '76 in the breaststroke, Pat Sipple '75 in free style, and Karen Gafrick '77 in distance free style.
Swimming Coach Terry Milam said, "This year we are beginning a new and more difficult set of events under the National Federation Rules. We are desperately trying to build our endurance to meet these more strenuous events. I am sure that with our dedicated team we will come out on top of the league."
Tennis has Barb Schwarz '75, a top singles player, and Karen Kiester '76 and Laurie Meissner '76, top doubles players, returning to the team this year. Coach Royleen Tipton commented, "I. don't expect a league championship, but I feel the Maine West team will be an even match against most of our competitors."
