Gridmen Record Drops to 0‑3
Hard times are upon us, at least if the performances by Maine West's gridmen thus far are any indication. Going into tomorrow afternoon's battle at Oak Park, with the sophomores kicking off at noon, Coach James Morel's squad will be trying to end a three game losing streak.

Oak Park will be the final non‑conference opponent for the Warriors during the regular season, with their first conference game coming at home against Niles West on October 4.

The totals for the varsity gridmen this season haven't been too encouraging. The season opener on September 7 saw them edged out by Springfield Eastern, 14-13; since that time, they have been beaten solidly by Prospect, 28-13, and New Trier East, 20-7.

One of Coach Morel's main problems this season has been at quarterback. With a back injury to last year's regular quarterback, Terry Quinn '75, putting him on the sidelines since before the season began, Coach Morel has been forced to experiment, using three different starters at that position in the first three games.
His choice for last Friday night's game against New Trier East's Indians was Bob Zuccarini '77, after using Bill Makuch '75, normally a running back, and Bob Nelson '76 in the first two games. Both teams played strong defensive first quarters, with a long kick‑off by Mike Pancich '75 and two deep punts by Norb Ploszaj '75 keeping New Trier well inside their own territory for most of the quarter.

Maine West's only touchdown of the game was set up late in that opening quarter when Sean Dowd '75 picked up an Indian fumble and returned it to New Trier's 7-yard line. After losing 10 yards the Warriors caught a break when the Indians were called for a pass interference penalty at the 6‑yard line. From there the Warriors kept the ball on the ground, with Makuch plowing over for the score from the 3‑yard line early in the second quarter.
