VOL. XVI, NO. 10
MARCH 21, 1975
Prospect Edges Maine W.
The Maine West varsity cagers completed their regular season schedule by downing Deerfield, 71-54. The win gave the Warriors a 9-5 conference record and third place in the Central Suburban League's South Division. Elk Grove was the Warriors' opening opponent in the Rolling Meadows regional tourney, and West's fourth-quarter play gave them a hard-earned 67-62 victory. Steve Zuccarini '75 totaled 19 points and 8 rebounds, while Heiden tossed in 20 points and Paul Dick and John Clark '75 combined to collect 16 caroms.

In the regional championship game on March 7 top-seeded Prospect just got by Maine West, 68-64. The Warriors jumped out to an early 12-2 lead behind the shooting of Bill Makuch '75, but the Knights kept their poise and cut the deficit to 15-12 by the end of the first quarter.
Undaunted, the Warriors continued to play well behind Heiden (24 points) and Clark (14 points) and were ahead by two with two minutes left following some hot‑shooting exchanges in the final stanza. However, the Knights then asserted themselves, with Dave Mann's steal and Paul Withey's layup and three free throws winning it.

Head Coach Gaston Freeman was pleased with the performance of the club in the Prospect game and for the season as a whole. The varsity's 14-10 slate was the school's best since 1971-72. The junior varsity finished at 8-9, the sophomores at 12-8, the freshman A team at 3-14, and the freshman B team at 5-9.
