A Test on Saturday Morning?
By DOUG DSIDA
What is a test? A test is a paper you have to study for so that your teachers can grade you on how much you have learned. Wrong. The ACT and SAT tests are not like that, of course not.
These tests are the only ones you don't have to take, so they say. You are told you can't study, but this doesn't make sense since the initials ACT stand for the Ability to Cram for a Test, but the students say differently. The initials really stand for - ‑Test. The SAT must be derived from a foreign language because SAT does not stand for anything.
These tests are no fun. You can't bring books home and pretend you are studying because your parents know you cannot study for these tests. They had to have some of the forms so they know this.
The forms are idiotic. They ask you about where you live, how you live, and so on. Well, I party, bowl, or play pool all the time. Really, I seldom do any of this.
The actual tests are a pain starting with getting up early in the morning. Then it is a four hour test. Thirdly, the tests are not that easy. Finally, you have to go to bed early because your parents say you have to sleep well to get a good grade. Many kids would like to say dream on, Mom, because no one goes to bed early on a thrilling Friday night.
Too much pressure is on you when you have to take the test because if you do badly on this test, most likely you won't be able to get into college. Now wouldn't it be great if you could flunk a test and not suffer so much for it.
A four hour test is not that bad providing you don't fall asleep with boredom. One test period you have time left over with nothing to do while other times you run out of time.
Wrapping it up, the test is a useless waste of time. Now just imagine if you didn't waste this time. You couldn't have a prayer for college. Let's keep the tests coming.
