Cindermen Close Indoor Season,
Prepare for Outdoor Competition
Maine West's track team has run far ahead of all competition in its indoor season. The track team has been undefeated in all meets except the Evanston Relays, which is comparable in talent to an indoor state meet.

The Evanston Relays took place on Friday, March 7, with the following cindermen placing in the meet. John Whipple '75 took a fourth in the 60‑yard low hurdles. Joe Paul '75 and Gary Brenner '75 took a second and fifth, respectively, in the one mile. In the pole vault Scott Sykora '75 took a fourth place.

Maine West did especially well in the relay events by placing third in the freshman four‑lap relay. second in the sophomore four‑lap relay, second in the varsity fourlap relay, and second in the varsity mile relay.

On Tuesday, March 11, Maine West's cindermen overwhelmed the Hinsdale South track team by a score of 33 to 84.
Then on March 15 Maine West Competed in the Blue Demon Relays held at Maine East. It was a close meet throughout the competition. With two events left, the class relay and the varsity mile relay, West had to win one to take the title and trophy.

In the class relay West had won but was disqualified because the last runner had let go of the relay baton after winning the race. West had its last chance in the mile relay, and again they crossed the finish line first, only to be disqualified for wearing an old uniform which was not exactly the same as the other uniforms worn by the relay team.

The games committee had a meeting the next Monday and decided to reinstate our relay team, which had won the race but had been disqualified afterward upon a protest from the Maine South coach. Maine West was issued a duplicate of the first place trophy and was also proclaimed the official winner of the meet.

On their next outing on Thursday, March 20, the cindermen again were victorious over the Hersey track team by a score of 42-65. This ended their indoor season with an almost perfect record.
