Sports Quiz
1. At the end of the 1974 season, what player held the American League lifetime record for the most home runs (559) by a right‑handed hitter?

2. The batter hits a hot shot through the pitcher's box. The pitcher jumps; the ball strikes the pitching rubber, and bounces sharply back into foul territory between home plate and first base where the catcher retrieves it. Is it a fair or foul ball?

3. The batter hits a long drive safely to right center. He rounds second and heads for third as the relay throw comes in. A close play is obvious. As the runner nears the base, the third baseman gloves the throw and tags the runner as he passes with the back of his glove. Is the runner out or must the third baseman tag him with the ball itself?

4. The pitcher is in a set position when he notices the runner on first breaking for second. The pitcher drops the ball, recovers it, and then retires the runner at second with a quick throw. Is the runner out or safe?

1. Harmon Killebrew
2. It is a foul ball if no player makes contact before it settles outside fair ground.
3. The runner is out.  It is not necessary for the fielder to tag him with the ball.
4. When a pitcher drops the ball, whether intentionally or accidently, while touching the rubber with runners on base, it is an automatic balk.  Thus, the runner is safe at second.
