Spring is here, isn't it? It's been kind of hard to tell lately with all this snow lying (laying?)around all over the place. Like all the other springtime activities, tennis has been hit hard by the recent inclement weather. After all, it's kind of tough to get the proper topspin on the ball through all of that mush.
The now famous (or infamous) incident concerning Maine West's indoor track team's win at the Blue Demon Relays is history, as the official ruling was made in West's favor. This decision seems to be quite fair and just considering the circumstances, or as one would say in layman's terms, "Cheater's proof!!" (Just kidding, Maine South, just kidding . . .)
I noticed something interesting at the first quarter‑final round game of the Class AA IHSA Basketball Tournament. This first game pitted Phillips, the eventual winner of the tournament, against Waukegan.
While Phillips' uniforms featured dark numerals on a white background, one of their players, Larry Williams, displayed white numerals trimmed in black on his white uniform. I'd just like to report that I heard no complaints from Waukegan on the matter, even though they lost the game, which, of course, is the way it should be.
Do you think that fate was trying to tell the Chicago Cubs something when the bad weather delayed the Cubs' home opener two days in a row?
On the Cubs chances of success in their division this season, I have this to offer. Any team in the National League East has a good chance of finishing last.
Remember, Cub fans, bleacher seats are only $1.25 this year!
