Regulation voting booths were set up in the rotunda for these elections of Student Council and Class Council officers. They were there from fourth period Wednesday, April 16, until 3 p.m. Friday, April 18.
Student Council president Jeff Dennis '75 supervised the election procedures along with sponsors, Mr. Ervin Geisler and Ms. Kathryn Mularkey, and Mr. Eldon Burk, assistant principal. There was little trouble in the operation of the booths because an attendant from the office of Mr. Stanley Kusper, Cook County Election Board head, who allowed Maine West the use of the machines kept an eye on the operation of the machines and helped the election judges learn to use the machines and teach the use of the machines to voters.
Thirty‑eight per cent of the Maine West students turned out to vote. Jeff Dennis seemed somewhat disappointed by the results of the election. He said, "I feel that this year's elections held by Student Council for Student Council and Class council officers was partly successful. More students turned out to vote this year than in any previous election. However, the turnout was not as great as expected.
