VOL. XVI, NO. 12
Ken Bruderle Named Lt. Governor
Ken Bruderle '76 is one of those students at Maine West who likes to be involved in school activities. When he was a freshman, he joined Key Club.
Ken was voted vice president of Key Club for his sophomore year and president for his junior year. Ken's term as president ends this month. He won't be idle, however, because he was recently voted lieutenant governor of Division 17 of the Illinois‑Eastern Iowa District of Key Clubs.
This may be confusing, but as Ken explains it, "Key Club is an international organization which is divided into districts and sub‑divided into divisions."
Being president of Key Club is a demanding job, but being lieutenant governor is even more demanding. In his position Ken is responsible for 13 Key Clubs. He plans a district project, charters new clubs, strengthens old ones, is in charge of a regional training conference, and is the link between the presidents of the 13 clubs.
During his term as lieutenant governor, Ken will do a lot of traveling in the district. He will be doing public speaking at Key Club, Kiwanis, and Circle K (colleges' Key Club) banquets and assemblies. "You have to devote a lot of time to being a lieutenant governor, and I'm willing to do it," Ken says.
One may ask how Ken was elected to this position. He ran against an Elk Grove junior, Kevin Jones, and won the unanimous vote of the 13 schools involved in the district.
Ken is presently involved in listening to the speeches of the candidates for his old job as president. When asked if he felt that the job as lieutenant governor was harder than the one of president, Ken said, "It's harder because of the added responsibility to the district. A president is important to his own club, where the lieutenant governor is important to the whole district."
