Did you know Maine West seniors Jeff Dennis and Peter Jung are the second and first place winners, respectively, in the 1975 Voice of Democracy Contest sponsored by the Des Plaines VFW? Each submitted for competition a tape recording on the theme "The Challenge of Citizenship." Peter took first place on both the school and local VFW district levels. He has received a plaque and a U.S. Savings bond.
Did you know in recent competition with 120 schools at the Oaklawn Jazz Festival held at Oak Lawn High School, the Maine West Jazz Combo received an excellent rating? The group includes student leader and arranger Larry Keller '75 on the vibes, Tim Keenly '76 This award is annually given to the one student who is judged best on his particular instrument. Larry received this award the second year in a row. The combo performed Erroll Garner's "Misty," "Cuernavaca," and "Just Flippin."

Did you know last summer Dr. Herman Meyer of the University of Chicago and Dr. Norman Ladd, Maine West math teacher, were co‑directors of an eight‑week National Science Foundation institute at the University of California, Santa Barbara, entitled "Utilization of Computers and Calculators in the Teaching of Mathematics."
