Did you ever stagger into your homeroom on Monday morning, flop down at your desk only to be awakened by a voice giving the WMTH weekend sports' results? Most likely all of us have at one time or another in our years at Maine West. But how many people actually know the dial setting of WMTH (88.5). Not many. The Westerner decided it was time that WMTH received some overdue recognition.

"WMTH officially became WMTH when the station received its license to broadcast over the air in 1959," explained Mr. Daryl Schultz, head of WMTH for the last six years. WMTH is basically a news-music‑sports‑public affairs oriented radio station. Sixty students work with the WMTH organization, performing such duties as engineering, broadcasting, and even sorting out the numerous shelves of records that the station has access to.
"When I came to be head of WMTH six years ago, we were only one out of 55 educational high school radio stations in the country," said Mr. Schultz. Any student wishing to work with WMTH next year must submit himself for an audition at the beginning of the year.

"As far as giving ourselves a rating goes, I would say near the top. Our evidence in a recent survey we took on 16 former Maine West graduates, where they are now currently working in educational radio stations in colleges all over the country. They were holding important, student‑staff positions."

Still thinking about that newsroom glamour you always see on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show"? There's room for you on WMTH or in one of next year's radio‑television classes.
