West Loses Shot at State Title
in 8-2 Loss to Rolling Meadows
High hopes for a state championship contending team at Maine West were dashed last Saturday, as the Warriors were shelled for six runs in the first inning en route to an 8-2 loss at the hands of Rolling Meadows.

The loss put the Westmen out of any further contention in post‑season play. Fenton and Elk Grove battled it out for the right to play Rolling Meadows and to possibly move on to the Ridgewood Sectional later in the season.

In other action recently the Warriors won one, lost one, and tied one. On April 30 West defeated Maine East, 4-1, with Doroskin taking the win. Scoring runs for West were Dan Henk '75, Mike Kelley '75, and Norm Hillner '75 (twice).

Maine then traveled to Deerfield in what was to be a very interesting and long afternoon of baseball. As darkness rolled in over Deerfield the score was knotted up at 11 in the eleventh inning. Al Mueller '75, Rich Slapke '75, and Rob Earhart '77 shared the mound duties, and Earhart will continue when the game is finished.
West went down to defeat against Glenbrook North in its next scheduled affair with Mueller suffering the loss. Crossing the plate in the losing cause were Kelley, Henk, Bill Makuch '75, Glen Watson '76, and Steve Zuccarini '75.

On the sophomore level Coach Don Olson's boys kept up their winning ways with victories over Deerfield (7-0), Maine East (3-1), New Trier West (3-2), and Glenbrook North (7-6).

Tim Platek '77 batted in three runs, and Bob Zuccarini '77 and Steve Van Vleck '77 each scored twice in the Deerfield win. Ron Rausch '78 recorded the victory in West's 10‑hit performance.

In the Demon win Platek again proved important, batting in two runs, as Glenn Rob '77 chalked up the victory. West notched up eight hits in all.

Four sixth‑inning runs were big factors in the Warriors' defeat of Glenbrook North. Platek scored three runs and batted in three while Wantroba marked up two in the whitewash. Rollo racked up his second win in less than a week.
