Equal Time
By LORRIE SWANSON

Did you ever wonder who was responsible for 'compiling all 637 pin-sized photos of the Sophomore Class in Legend? Or all those red-hot news flashes that are printed in the Westerner? You probably haven't - which is why we decided to probe into these two organizations for the last Equal Time.

Audrey Nyberg '75 is this year's editor and a three year veteran of the Legend staff. Plans for the yearbook were begun immediately in September when Audrey and business manager Gail Gawel '75 picked the various section editors, fixed their budget. and designed a cover for the most recent volume of Legend.

After this was done, the section editors and their assistants began attacking their jobs furiously. For six months they must arrange for photographers to take pictures of all scholastic activities and events, type the copy, and begin working on all the page layouts.
There are no holidays or rest in the world of news, as Carolyn McGavin '75, this year's editor‑in‑chief of the Westerner, can well tell you. Carolyn is responsible for the well‑being of its 14 yearly issues.

After Carolyn has worked out sign‑up sheets with the page editors, the journalism classes serve as reporters writing stories about what's happening here at Maine West. Maine West is one of the few schools that gives its journalism classes opportunities in actual news reporting situations.

"Westerner has been a fulfilling experience," Carolyn stated wistfully. "Mr. Walker is a good sponsor and a fine man to work with."

So the next time you pick up a yearbook or a Westerner, think twice about the hard work that is put into both.
