Top Senior Boy Athletes
Baseball

Dan Henk was recently voted as this year's outstanding senior baseball player. Dan started out in baseball pitching and being voted the most valuable player on the freshman squad.

As a sophomore Dan pitched on the sophomore squad, again being voted as the most valuable player. Dan continued pitching as a junior on the varsity squad.

However, this year Dan changed from a pitcher to the team's first baseman. This change helped Dan earn the recognition of most valuable player for the third time, this year on the varsity squad.
Wrestling

Brad Bonnivier was one of the main point scorers for the Maine West grapplers the past season. Brad had home troubles with his ear and was unable to wrestle a few times during the middle part of the season; but when he was able, he was wrestling.

Brad was voted by the entire varsity wrestling team as the Most Valuable Wrestler. During the regular wrestling season Brad had a record of 16 wins and only one loss in the 132‑pound weight class.
Soccer

Norm Hillner was named Most Valuable Player by the Maine West varsity soccer team. Hillner has been an All. Conference selection two years in a row.

Coach Dave Winter said that Hillner was one of the major reasons for the varsity record of 12-2-2. Coach Winter said that Hillner is an excellent on the field team leader and, throughout his two years in Maine West soccer, has developed extraordinary skills.

Norm played center halfback, and he ran the entire defense. It was noted by Coach Winter that Hillner shoots well with either foot, so that he can control the ball well on either side of the field.
Golf

Varsity Coach Ken Olson was quick to name Scott Kisten as this year's most valuable senior athlete on his golf squad.

Scott participated in the state championship while in his junior year. This fall he was a member of the Central Suburban League conference championship team.

One of his many outstanding achievements in golf was when he shot a 33, three under par for nine holes at Chevy Chase, setting a course record for high school golfers.
Gymnastics

This year's outstanding senior gymnast is Mike Swiatek. Swiatek has been a member of the gymnastics team since his freshman year.

He first competed on the varsity level in his junior year, earning his varsity letter that year. Working as an all‑around man, Mike has specialized his interest on all of the apparatus and floor exercises. However, Mike's greatest interest was the high bar, on which he took the top score in many meets.
Swimming

The outstanding senior swimmer of this year is George Ericksen. George has been on the varsity team three years, lettering each year.

He was chosen by his teammates during his sophomore year as being the most improved swimmer. This achievement was followed by his being chosen the most valuable varsity swimmer this year.

George placed in varsity conference and districts all three years in backstroke. Varsity Coach Darrell Green commented, "George was a valuable asset to our team, not only because he was good in backstroke, but because he could place in all events except breaststroke."
Tennis

Rick Petrucci was recently named by varsity tennis Coach Roger King as this year's outstanding senior tennis player. For the past two years Rick has played tennis on the varsity squad.

This year on the varsity squad Rick has played second singles. He has also played varsity doubles at some of this year's invitationals. Although the team had a losing season, Rick continued winning in second singles competition against Lake Park, Glenbrook South, and Niles West.
Football

Sean Dowd was a very important part of Maine West's football team this season. He led the team in 1974 in pass receiving on offense, and he had the most tackles on defense.

He won many awards for his great performance during the season. Sean was on the Paddock Publications All‑Area Team. He received special mention on the Chicago Daily News All‑Area Team and a special mention on the Chicago Tribune All‑Area and All‑State Teams.
Cross Country

Joe Paul was elected by his teammates as the most valuable senior runner of this year's varsity cross country team. He was unbeaten in 19 dual meets this year.

Paul was the leading scorer on the varsity cross country team during both his junior and senior years. By outrunning all of his competition, he became the state of Illinois district cross country champion.
Basketball

Helping the Warrior basketball team to a 14-10 record, its finest mark in several years, was guard Glen Heiden, the team's most valuable player. Heiden played four years of basketball, the last two as a regular on the varsity squad.

Glen made Notre Dame's All‑Tournament team during the Christmas holidays, and his name will appear in the 1975 Prep All‑America Basketball Yearbook.
