Mr. Coburn Announces Scholars
Eighteen seniors at Maine West have been named merit program commended students by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Principal James Coburn announced the names of these students receiving the letters of commendation: Karen Batey, Jon Helgeland, Erin Hynes, Peter Jung, Kenneth Kovar, James Loewenherz, Gabriele Miessner, Audrey Nyberg, Elsa Pahnke, Stephen Schaefle, Robin Scheffel, Michael Schillmoeller,

These students were among the 38,000 commended students; but their scores were just below those of the 15,000 semifinalists, who were announced in September. They will not continue in Merit Scholarship competition.
