'Western Triumph' Brings Out
Spirit of MW
"I think that the Homecoming this year without a doubt was one of the most exciting and best Homecomings since I have been involved with student activities," commented Mr. Eldon Burk, assistant principal.

The Homecoming weekend included a pep rally, parade, football game, and dance. Mr. Burk remarked, "The participation was one of the best." Virgil Carter, the Chicago Fire quarterback, was the guest speaker at the pep rally.

"There could have been more pep," said one of the Pom Pon girls about the pep rally. Representatives of various fall sports spoke, and both Pom Pon and the twirlers performed. Margie Clem '77, solo twirler, got a standing ovation for her performance.

The Warrior marching band led by drum major, Torn Ward '75, and the Maine West twirling corps led by solo twirler, Margie Clem '77, marched at the head of the Homecoming parade through downtown Des Flames. The Freshman Class won the float contest.

The football game was won by the Maine West Varsity Warriors. They won over the Deerfield Warriors with a score of 21 to 20.
The last time Maine West won their Homecoming varsity football game was four years ago against the Deerfield Warriors, again with a score of 21 to 20.

At halftime of the varsity game the Maine West marching band, twirlers, and Pom Pon performed. The band's performance was entirely written and rehearsed by the student band staff.

Out of nine candidates Paula Potter '75 was picked as Homecoming queen. The announcement was made at halftime of the varsity game, and afterward Paula rode around the field in a convertible.

Also included in the halftime show was a new addition to the Maine West spirit tradition. Chris Czarkowski '75 came out on the field dressed as a Maine West Warrior in a costume made by Lisa D'Argo '75.

The Homecoming dance, Indian Summer, was on Saturday, October 19. One of the Senior Class Council sponsors, Mr. Richard Frey, stated, "The dance was a huge success. We made almost $500. The band was good and everybody danced. A good time was had by all."
