VOL. XVI, NO. 3
The "KISS" concert will be remembered by the students of Maine West for a long while to come. The concert began at 7:30 p.m. in the Herman L. Rider Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday, November 2. Seats had been set up on the main floor, and a set of bleachers had been set up by the west wall. A giant stage with a set of drums labeled "KISS" were by the east wall.
Police cars were in evidence and about five officers patrolled the doors and inside the gymnasium. "Episode" started the concert and immediately an array of bright multi‑colored lights were brought into action. "Episode," according to a number of Maine West students, was merely "good for a beginning group" or "all‑right."
"Westfall," though definitely not a beginning group, did not receive a very favorable reaction from the crowd. After a short wait, "Kiss" opened with a burst of drumwork and gunpowder flashes. The wildly made‑up lead singer's first act was to shoot balls of flame from his fingertips at the audience. The rest of the time "Kiss" played a blur of well executed, high energy rock.
One of the last songs they played was a finale‑type number that was pierced by a siren show and a "search light scans the crowd" segment. The group was called back for an encore by a raging crowd after they screamed "Good‑night." Mr. Erv Geisler, Ms. Kathryn Mularkey, and the rest of council were responsible for the performance.
