Improved Archers End 7-1 Season
The Maine West girls' archery team ended a very successful season with a 7-1 record. Their last victory was against Ridgewood High with a score of 16-4. In that meet Barb Breider '76 set a new Maine West record by being the first archer to break the 400-point mark in competition.

The archers did very well at their league meet at Niles East by capturing three of the top five awards. Barb Breider captured the first place trophy. Maripat Klein '75 won the second place trophy. The top four archers are Barb Breider, Kathy Dueball '75, Maripat Klein, and Sandy Sadler '75.

The girls feel that they have improved a lot since last year.
Their reasons for some of the improvement over last year is better equipment, like b o w sights and aluminum arrows, which give a better flight. Another improvement is in the skill of shooting. Last year there was only one perfect end shot (six bulls‑eyes in a row). This year the archers compiled 21 perfect ends.

The girls' tennis team took a third place behind Arlington and Prospect in the district tournament on October 19. Maine West was the only team at the tournament to advance all four entries into second round play. Coach Royleen Tipton commented, "The girls play very well, and the third place finish was a great accomplishment for us in a tough district."
