West's Win Streak Stopped
By Hawks To End Season
The varsity gridders were eliminated from further competition last Saturday by the Hawks of Maine South. The Warriors were defeated 10-0 at Maine South.

If the Warriors had won, they would have been tied for first place in the Central Suburban South Conference. Their final conference record was three wins and two losses.

The Hawks booted a field goal early in the first quarter, making the score 3-0, after recovering a fumble by Maine West. The following kick was returned by Bill Makuch '75 all the way to the end zone only to have a clipping call bring the ball back to the Warrior 31-yard line. Referring to this play, Coach James Morel stated, "Some bad calls broke our momentum."

Maine South scored on a fourth quarter pass to cap a steady drive from their own 43‑yard line, with the extra point completing the afternoon's scoring. Saturday's contest was the first game the varsity lost with quarterback Terry Quinn '75 at the helm. Quinn was out with an injury earlier in the season.
Coach Morel stressed that it was a low‑key game. "It was not played like a championship game. Neither team played their best."

Terry Quinn cited, "It was a good season. It's disappointing to lose.''

Mike Janonis '75 offered, "The offense just didn't get any breaks."

Coach Morel credited John Paloian '76 for doing an excellent job at defensive tackle. Kevin Stoltz '75 and Todd Salerno '75 also did superb work on both offense and defense. Steve Zuccarini '75 played outstanding defense, recovering a fumble and intercepting a pass. Scott Unger '76 played exceptionally well in the backfield.

Glenn Miller '75 cracked, "Wait 'til next year!"

Niles East was crushed by the Warriors on Friday, October 25, by a score of 32‑14.

The freshman "B" team shut out Niles East on October 26, 24-0, but the "A" team was smashed 20-0 on the same day. The two Warrior squads also split a pair with Deerfield on October 18. The "A" team lost 34-14 and the "B" team won by a score of 32-14.
