Grapplers To Host Wheeling
The Maine West wrestling team, varsity, junior varsity, and sophomore, will open their seasons with a meet at Maine West against Wheeling on November 23.
The Maine West sophomore coach, Mr. Erv Geisler, said, "The sophomore team is hurting for numbers. We only have 19 kids out for the team." He also said that the kids who are out for the team are dedicated; and he hopes for a good season, even though he cannot predict until he has seen the team in a few matches.
The varsity and junior varsity teams have had better luck in the membership department; but there are key injuries, some fill‑ins, and some wrestlers who did not return. Speaking of the varsity team, Coach Geisler said, "Many people who are out this year are wrestling in the same weight class as last year."
A bright spot on the Maine West varsity will be the return of Bryan Real '75, who last year posted a won-lost record of 24-2. Mr. Richard Carlini, varsity coach, said, "We expect good performances from Bryan, although each wrestler has to prove himself all over each season."
Maine West also has a newcomer to the wrestling team in Joe Romano '75, who just entered Maine West this year. He will be trying for a spot on the Maine West varsity.
All in all, Maine West coaches and their wrestlers hope to do well this season. Their streak of six wins from last year may continue with a win tomorrow.
