Bucketmen Record Stands at 2‑2
In varsity basketball action, Maine West has a 2-2 record as the cage season enters its third week. Head Coach Gaston Freeman feels that his club's execution offensively is almost there after four contests; and he is stressing rebounding, defense, and intra-team communication as the deciding factors in determining future Warrior fortunes.

The Warriors were victorious in overtime 78 to 72 over Forest View on the day before Thanksgiving. Trailing by 14 points with a little more than three minutes remaining, Maine West snapped out of a listless performance to tie the game at the end of regulation. Continuing their fine play in the extra period, and aided by the sudden ineffectiveness of the Falcons, the Warriors won going away. The play of forwards Paul Dick, '75 who had 21 points, and Bill Makuch '75, who notched 14, was instrumental in the final six minutes. Glen Heiden '75 tallied 22 points and dealt out eight assists before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.
In their first conference game, the Warriors traveled to Niles West, where the Indians jumped to an early advantage, built up their lead through the second and third quarters, and held on to win 66 to 61. Lack of cohesive defense and an inability to deal with the Niles West zone defense offensively put Maine West into a 25‑point deficit at 46 to 21 early in the third quarter. A furious comeback, keyed by an effective pressing defense, made the game close, but the Warriors simply ran out of time in their quest to duplicate their first victory heroics.

Maine West returned home the following evening, and they never trailed as they downed Libertyville, 62-46. The Warriors held a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, and though the Lions trimmed the margin to but four points on several occasions, they could never get closer. The game was Maine West's best overall effort in terms of each of the starting five contributing, as they played soundly, defensively, offensively, and on the boards. Backcourt ace Glen Heiden continued to carry the offensive load by netting 22 points. John Clark '75 scored 12 points, and Paul Dick and Steve Zuccarini '75 each had 11.
