Girl Gymnasts Edge N.E.
for Lone Win
The girls' gymnastics team is becoming stronger and more experienced every week. The young varsity team has had two good showings after an opening loss to a strong Deerfield squad. Their record now stands at one win and two losses.

After a four‑point loss to Niles North on December 3, the girls edged out Niles East by the score of 75.60 to 74.50. This year's A team consists mostly of sophomores who have had consistently good scores in each meet. The victory at Niles East lifted team spirits because of domination in each event.

Jill Heiden '77 took first place in vaulting and Nancy Cacciatore '77 took second place. Maine West took all four places in floor exercise. High scorers were Dottie Gallucci '76, Ellen Vana '75, Jill Heiden, and Joan DeLaet '76. Robin Gulder '77 took second in the meet on the high bar with a 6.05.
In their loss to Niles North the girls fought hard but lost with relatively good scores. B team member Else Lopez '77 won the B team vaulting with a score of 6.75. Nancy Cacciatore led the scorers for Maine West with a 6.60. On the balance beam Jill Heiden took first with a 7.40.

Noreen Barry '76 and Joan DeLaet were the others scorers in that event. In the hard fought floor exercise event Dottie Gallucci won the event with Ellen Vana and Jill Heiden taking second and third for the team.

Even though the team is young, the outlook seems good for the rest of the year. Coach Judy Beck seems happy with their performance so far and is expecting the team to finish strong.
