No School on January 27

There will be no school on Monday, January 27. A teachers institute will be held on that day. The teachers are first scheduled to attend a general meeting and later break up into departmental workshops. Mr. John Graef, assistant principal, said, "The title of the institute is 'Humanizing Education' which has been our goal all year."

Mid‑Year Commencement Set

Maine West's third annual mid‑year commencement exercises will be held on Thursday, January 30, at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. Participants in the programs include the Reverend Earl Laman from the La Salle Church in Chicago. Mr. James Coburn, principal, and Assistant Principals Eldon Iurk and John Graef. Also featured in the program will be Board of Education members, Mrs. Ann Evans, Mr. Donald Goll, Mr. Roy Makela, and President Robert Claus. The Maine West Chamber Orchestra and Choraliers will provide music for the program. Approximately 90 students will be graduating early this year.
Final Exams Scheduled

Final exams will be given on January 22, 23, and 24, Wednesday through Friday. The exam periods will extend from 8:10 to 9:40, 9:50 to 11:20, and 11:30 to 1. The schedule for the tests is 3, 8, and 6 on Wednesday, 1, 7, and 5 on Thursday, and 2, 9, and 4 on Friday. Detailed instructions are posted in the homerooms.

Art and Music Departments 'Chicago Duo'

The Maine West Art and Music Departments presented the "The Chicago Duo" last Wednesday during eighth period in the auditorium. Violinist Arnald Brostoff and pianist Sheldon Shkolnik from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra played a special preview concert which included the Delius "Sonata Number 3," Greig's "Sonata in F," and Beethoven's "Sonata Number 1." This program is identical to the one that they will play in Orchestra Hall today. The preview concert was open to all students with a true interest in classical music.
