Gymnasts Roll Over Norsemen
Maine West's gymnastics team overtook Maine North by a score of 99.89 to 84.35 last Friday, January 3, at Maine North. A fine showing was made by the Maine West team as they took many of the top scores.
In floor exercise first place went to Patrick Dent '76 with a 7.65, while a tie for third place occurred between Bill Davis '75 and Mike Swiatek '75, as they both took scores of 5.0. Finishing with a first place on the side horse was Neil Sosdian '75 with a 7.6, while third place went to Mark Rocque '77 with a score of 4.9.
Top score on the high bar was taken by Steve Baker '75 with a score of 6.6. On the parallel bars first place finisher was Davis with a 6.8, while taking second was Swiatek with a score of 6.4.
First place on still rings was taken by Jim Coburn '75, scoring a 7.15. The meet's all‑around champion was Swiatek with a 4.96 average, while in second place was Dent with a 4.13 average.
On Saturday, December 21, Maine West's gymnastics team took part in the Maine East Invitational. Out of 13 teams competing, Maine West, making a poor showing, placed thirteenth. The low placement of the team was mainly due to the fact that the team was faced with a last minute replacement for Pat Dent.
