Tankmen Victimize Niles North
For First lime in Two Years
The varsity tankmen started their Christmas vacation schedule by losing to powerful Glenbrook South (41-125) but swam a terrific comeback the next day while beating Niles North (93-86). The varsity team had not beaten Niles North in two years.

Receiving first places for West were Tom Ptach '77 in the 200 and 500 free, Jerry Paulsen '76 in the diving, George Ericksen '75 in the butterfly, and Nick Mencinger '75 in the breaststroke.

Coach Darrell Green commented, "This is probably the most satisfying win of the season so far. It is good to see the team producing when the heat is on.''

The junior varsity squad had two wins against Glenbrook South (111-57) and Niles North (124-49). Against Glenbrook South the free relay consisting of Ptach, Craig MacNab '77, Stan Dryanski '77, and Jim Acker '77 broke the sophomore record.
On December 26 the swimmers Second Annual Holiday 1650 was held. Ptach beat the previous record held by Larry Bierwirth '73 at 18:09, swimming a 17:59.8.

On December 28 the Maine East Sophomore Invitational was held. Maine West's sophomores took second place out of nine teams. The best performances were turned in by Ptach in the 200 and 500 free and the free relay. Ptach placed first and broke both meet records.

The free relay consisting of Ptach, Acker, MacNab, and Dryanski placed second but beat their previous sophomore record by three seconds. This is the first meet trophy that a Maine West swimming team has won in four years.
