Institute Day Cancelled
The teacher institute which was originally scheduled for Thursday, February 27, has been cancelled, according to Mr. John Graef, assistant principal. It will be held in March or April instead.
Juniors Can Sign Up for SAT, ACT
Juniors planning to go to college should consider taking the SAT and ACT tests, since many colleges and universities require one or both of these tests. Deadlines for registration are Thursday, February 27, for the SAT, and Monday, March 31, for the ACT. The cost for the SAT is $6.50, and it will be given on Saturday, April 5. The ACT, which will be given on Saturday, April 26, will cost $7. Students who register after the deadlines must pay an additional $4. See Mr. James Killam in the personnel office for more information.
Applications for Grants Now Available
Applications are now available for a Basic Educational Opportunity Grant Award, which gives financial aid to those who need it to go to college. The value of the grants ranges between $50 and $800. Students may pick up an application in the personnel office.
Jazz Combo Rated Excellent
The Maine West Jazz Combo was rated excellent in the Oak Lawn Jazz Festival on Saturday, February 1. Members of the combo are Larry Keller '75, Jim Moritz '75, Bill Hanley '75, Tom Fischer '76, Tim Keenley '76, and Beth McCarthy '76. Out of the 110 schools that attended, Larry Keller was picked as the all star performer on vibes. This is the second year in a row he has received this honor. Larry also wrote all of the group's arrangements.
