Have you ever wondered what made your class tick? If you haven't, then perhaps it is time you did, as Westerner tries to point out the many faces of class council.

So far, the Class of '78 is off to a roaring start. as president Dan Nelson can tell you. The freshmen, this year, showed us how to make a float when they ran away with first place with their creative rendition of a steam engine.

It seems, though, that Mark Salivitch '77 is having to work a little harder in stirring up interest among the sophomores. "Our PTC party is March 1," explained Mark. "We are hoping for a big turnout and need donations to help sponsor next year's projects. If we don't get some of the money this year, we may not be able to have a Junior Prom."

However, all is not lost for the sophomores. They, too, had a successful turnout for the float building during homecoming. According to Mark, the only real thing the Sophomore Class lacks is interested and active sophomores.

The Class of '76 is already making plans for this year's Junior Prom. Joyce Hofbauer, class president, explained some of the problems the juniors will have.

We're going to really have to watch expenses this year. Our committee chairmen have been picked. We hope for a lot of help from the class. No committee can never have enough people, and you don't have to be on council to help."
Joyce and her class council members have decided the theme of this years' prom to be "Sunrise Sunset." Said Joyce, "The more people we have working on the prom the more we will enjoy it. Miss Nickelson is helping us a lot."

Senior Class Council is ahead contemplating its final farewell to Maine West. Plans for graduation are being made by class president Carol Kent and her senior members.

"Next month the students and their parents will be able to vote on whether to have a baccalaureate. In my opinion, I hope we have one," stated Carol. "Senior superlatives are being worked out for our Senior Dessert, and we are hoping for good weather so that we may have graduation ceremonies in the football stadium."

Carol is elated so far with the success the seniors have had this past year. "We had the best turnout ever at the Homecoming dance. We made about $600." Unfortunately, the seniors failed in their last, gallant attempt at making a decent float.

Plans for the remaining half of the year are, of course, Senior Prom and the Senior PTC Party on March 6. First, Senior Prom will be held at Michigan Shores Country Club on a Friday night. The PTC party will be held on a Thursday night, in hopes more seniors will attend. "I hope everyone won't think it's queer because the roller skating and stuff is fun," Carol said heartily.

Class council is an organization devoted to making those pleasurable things we will remember about high school as being fun. Wouldn't it be nice if you could tell your kids you helped?
