Bucketmen Win Two of Three,
Hold Third Place in C SL South
Balanced offense and a steady defense has played a key role in the varsity basketball squad's success over the past few weeks with the Warriors coming out on top in two of their last three ball games. On Tuesday night

Maine West bowed to Niles West, 66-57, but in two previous games handled Glenbrook North 62-48, and Maine East, 74-52.

The Warriors now hold an overall record of 11-8 and a conference record of 7-4, which puts them in third place in the South Division of the Central Suburban League, behind Maine South and Niles West. Maine West travels to Niles East for a game tonight, hoping to sweep the season's short series between the two clubs.

The Trojans fell to the Warriors earlier in the season, 60-58. and presented their biggest scoring threat in the person of center John Harles. Contrary to Niles East, Niles West's most consistent scorer, guard Marty Block, is not too big at all.

Block carried a great part of the Indians' scoring load Tuesday night, though, blazing the nets for 25 points, with 15 of those coming in the second half. The first quarter was a killer for Maine, as a sour offense produced only six points to Niles West's 15.
Center John Clark '75 netted 15 points for the Warriors and pulled down 11 rebounds. Steve Zuccarini '75 helped out with nine rebounds, and Glen Heiden '75 chipped in with 12 points and six assists.

At Glenbrook North last Friday the Warriors stretched a winning, streak to four with a 62-48 victory over the Spartans.

Guards Glen Heiden (26 points) and Bob Zuccarini '77 (18 points) reached personal season scoring highs; and Bill Makuch '75 played an instrumental role with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists.

On January 31 Maine West romped over Maine East, 74-52. After falling behind at the outset, largely due to the long range shooting of Demon Mark Mahoney (15 points), the Warriors took a 29-23 halftime lead and methodically increased it during the second half.

Team defense was a key (each had trouble getting the ball inside) as well as a balanced offense. Heiden led West with 17 points and six assists while Bob Zuccarini netted 16. Paul Dick '75 (12 points) and Steve Zuccarini (10 points) each grabbed 11 rebounds.
