Council Plans
Candidates Campaign First Week in April
This year Student Council is going to hold elections for class council officers and Student Council officers differently than how they have in the past years. These new elections will be held if the Student Council's new constitution is amended.
In the past, elections were held according to the Council's present constitution which stipulates that the elections for Student Council officers would be held first, followed by the class council officers' elections.
The new constitution would allow all four levels of students, as before, to vote for the Student Council officers. The difference in constitutions is that at the same election for Student Council officers the three classes attending West next fall will vote for their class council officers.
Students will be able to pick up petitions for the Student Council and class council offices on Monday, March 10. The petitions then must be turned in on Wednesday, March 19.
The candidates will be campaigning from Monday, April 7, to Friday, April 11, one week after spring vacation. On Wednesday, April 9, an all school assembly will be held to introduce all of the candidates. The Student Council candidates will make speeches.
The voting will take place on Thursday, April 10, and Friday, April 11. Student Council hopes to have a voting machine for each class.
