Did you know that Betsy Forkins '76, an American history advanced placement student, has been chosen by the Social Science Department to attend "A Presidential Classroom for Young Americans" in Washington D.C. in late winter? The eight-day Presidential Classroom exposes selected high school students from all over the United States to all three branches of government as well as the related areas which influence our political system. The Des Plaines Kiwanis have provided Betsy with a full tuition scholarship of $250.
Did you know that Mr. Daniel Silkowski, chairman of the English Department, served as a consultant for the College Entrance Examination Board which sponsors the advanced placement program at Maine West? This program offers competent high school seniors the chance to earn college placement and/or credit while they are still in high school.
Did you know that Maine West is featuring a new course called Clothing IV? This course emphasizes independent study through more complete individualization of clothing textiles. The course, taught by Mrs. Lynn MacIntyre, enables students to increase their in‑depth knowledge of a variety of aspects related to the clothing field.
