Excellent Assembly: Our Last This Year
Last Friday was the final pep assembly for this school year.
The assembly was a take‑off on Bozo's Circus. Ringmaster Ned was portrayed by Jeff Dennis '75. The assembly started with the Grand March which consisted of the winter sports teams and the people participating in the assembly. Encouraging more team support, a person from each sport gave a short speech telling when their next meets would be held and where. The cheerleaders and pom‑pon squads performed routines.
Laurie Armstrong '75, Gail Searfoss '75, Carolyn McGavin '75, Barb Sherman '75, Kim Smogoiski '75, Carol Kent '75, Dawn Peterson '76, Anne Lawlor '76 and Tammy Cunningham '76 did two short skits. The first skit was of a gymnastics team, and the second skit was showing the basketball team what goes on in the bleachers while they're playing.
Ellen Vana '75 did a floor exercise routine which has brought high scores for the girls' gymnastics team. Also Margi Clem '77 gave an excellent baton performance.
For entertainment John Clark '75 and Ruth Burnick '75 were picked by the magic arrows, who were Ron Houston '75, Phil Logsdon '75, Carolyn McGavin, and Gall Searfoss, to play the grand prize game. The person who made the most free shots was the winner. Ruth Bernick was the winner and awarded a free chicken dinner.
Mr. James Coburn, principal, escorted Carol Kent on a tandem bicycle around the gym. When Carol got off, she gave the anonymous chicken hawk, who appeared several times during the assembly, a pie in the face. The ending of the assembly was the traditional competition cheer. The seniors won for the last time.
The pep assembly attendance was excellent. Mr. Eldon Burk, assistant principal, said that "A pep assembly is generally to have fun but most of all to show the teams the support the school has for them."
A special thanks goes to Audrey Nyberg '75, whose hard work made the assembly possible.
