MW Student Contributes Warrior
The Maine West Warrior picture on the east wall of the Rider Gym is nearing the first anniversary of its completion. Before long the words Maine West will be painted above it.

Though the Warrior is over nine feet tall, it looks much smaller due to the massive size of the wall.

After unsuccessful attempts by two Maine West students to paint a Warrior figure for the Rider Gym, alumnus George Bethurem '67 was commissioned to do it. George began his sketches for the Warrior in the fall of 1973 and completed it in the spring of 1974.
George painted it on tempered masonite in acrylic paints. The Warrior's pose is serious, a contrast to the comical Warriors in the other gyms.

Mr. George Blanas, Art Department chairman, had nothing but praise for George's abilities as an artist. George was an outstanding art student during his years at Maine West, winning countless awards, including the Art Department Award, and earning a scholarship to Bradley University.
