Varsity Badminton Wins Opener, 4‑3
The girls' sports teams have been extremely active in the past two weeks. Both the basketball and badminton teams have had fine showings in the early parts of their seasons.

At the New Trier West invitational on February 22 the badminton team earned two consolation victories.

Karen Kiester '76 won the consolation round of the "B" division singles tournament, while Beth Bouman '76 and Therese Plas '76 won the consolation round of the "D" division doubles tournament.

In team competition on February 18 the varsity team won 4-3 while the junior varsity lost 7-2. The varsity won on good performances by Karen Batey '75 and Karen Kiester in singles.

The doubles team of Evelyn Johnson '76 and Jane Krauser '76 defeated their New Trier opponents easily, while the team of Denise Goslee '77 and Barb Klein '77 won a close decision to give the varsity team the victory. Beth Bouman was the lone victor in the rugged junior varsity singles action.

The badminton teams will face Deerfield on March 5 and will play a strong Niles West team on March 7.
The girls' basketball team also faced the New Trier West Cowboys in their first game of the season. Although this game did not count in the divisional standings, the girls came out fighting. Both varsity and junior varsity were soundly defeated.

The varsity lost 49-18 and the junior varsity lost 50-19. High scorers for the varsity were Ruth Bernick '75 with 9 points and Cathy Huntoon '77 with four points. The junior varsity was paced by Kim Friend '75, who had 10 points and 18 rebounds, and by Chris Cwiakala '77 with three points.

The basketball team will also face Deerfield and Niles West this week.
