New Faces, Changes Appear in Buildings

New Teachers

This year Maine West has some new additions to its faculty. Mr. George Jurinek is the new dean of boys. New Business Education teachers are Mr. Daryl Brackensick, Mr. John Drollinger, Ms. Betty Heraty, and Ms. Lynnette McGinn. Mr. Daniel Montier for Drivers Education; Mr. Scott Chovanc and Ms. Sally Shulenburg, both P.E. teachers; and Mr. Stefan Zimmerman, Industrial Education, have also joined us. Ms. Susan Masellis is the new French teacher, and Ms. Vicki Bixler and Ms. Charlene Orr are new librarians. Other new members of the staff are Mrs. Patricia Christeson, Ms. Helen Kremers, Ms. Janet McClellan, and Ms. Judith Zebos to further help Maine West students.


Illinois Office of Education

Representatives from the Illinois Office of Education will visit the Maine High Schools from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3 for a state recognition visit. The recognition and supervision team, composed of 22 educators from other school districts, will divide into two 11‑man teams to evaluate our district's education programs, buildings, faculties, equipment, and supplies. They will meet with all department chairmen and visit classrooms.

Special Reading Classes

It's new! It's here at Maine West! What? ACTION, of course What is that? It is the special reading classes for freshmen at Maine West. Selection will be based on recommendations from teachers and ITED test scores. For those who need the extra help in reading, the classes are very small and geared to learning and improving upon the basic reading skills. A new reading teacher, Mrs. Patricia Christeson, will guide and instruct the new program.


Open Campus

The Illinois Institute of Technology will open its campus to Chicago area visitors on Oct. 13 and Nov. 11. Registration begins at 9 a.m. in ITT's Grover M. Herman Hall, 3241 S. Federal Street, each day of open classes. Visitors may attend classes on a variety of subjects such as management, economics, mathematics, and photography.

Sunday, Oct. 19, is ITT's Visitors Day at 1 p.m. Mr. Robert Leitze, ITT financial aid director, and Mr. Ralph Godzicki, Illinois state scholarship commission director, will speak on financial aid. For further information please contact the Westerner in R‑210.


Freshman Cheerleaders

Freshman Cheerleaders this year were chosen September 11. Many Sabiniski is captain and Joanie Gallucci is co‑captain. The others are Beth Bartolene Kim Kratz, Kim Marquette, Amy Morrisen, Rose Otto, and Debbie Spetuk.
