VOL. XVII, NO. 1
By JAN HENRIKSON
When we limit certain choices to certain sexes
we bind the mind like feet,
squeezing its spectrum into a stubble
bruised and blocked of circulation.
Then we say, "Realize the mind's potential but tighten the binding!"
like ordering an arm with a tourniquet
clenched around it to play football and wondering why it's bleeding.
All we need is the chance to gradually unbind ourselves.
Learn to walk, through pain at first;
and then not only run, but fly in the unfolding sky,
searching for the other side of our own moon, just living up to ourselves.
