Every year the Quill and Scroll Society evaluates student publications from all over the United States. This year, Maine West's newspaper, the Westerner, received an international first place award for its achievements as a newspaper of Substantial Achievements.

Out of a possible 1,000 points Maine West received 888 points. This is an excellent score, and last year's entire Westerner staff is to be commended for all of the hard work they put into the publication
