Dean Jurinek Comes to Maine West
Mr. George Jurinek, Maine West's new dean of boys, is making headway in having a fine relationship with students. After spending a month at Maine West last year "getting the feel of the job," Mr. Jurinek is having little trouble with the basic dean's duties.

"Originally, a dean was a disciplinarian," he says. "But now that concept has changed a great deal. Today a dean must be part disciplinarian, part social worker, and part friend to these students."

A strong rapport with students is necessary, according to Mr. Jurinek; and he believes he is heading in the right direction to make himself their dean, but not their headmaster.
Before coming to Maine West, Mr. Jurinek was varsity wrestling coach at Maine East for eight years. Jokingly, he said that varsity coaches seem to make good deans since so many coaches become deans. Mr. Robert Riek, last year's dean of boys, is now the athletic director at Maine East.

Thus far in the school year, Mr. Jurinek has encountered little trouble with the student body in general and he hopes that few if any incidents occur during the entire school year.

His biggest goal is maintaining good terms with the students as a whole. Mr. Jurinek speaks to the students in the hallways, and he shows a sincere interest in all his friends within the student body.
