Archers Triumph In Season Opener
The Maine West girls' archery team was victorious in their season opener against Sacred Heart on Monday, Sept. 22, at Sacred Heart. Even though the West archers were on unfamiliar ground they went on to win by a score of 20‑0.
Shooting from 20 yards, leading scorer was Leslie Blietz with a 52‑point average for four ends. Following close behind was Barb Breider with a 50‑point average and Mary Ann Wielgos with a 51‑point average. The totals for the three girls at 20 yards were 208, 200, and 202, respectively.
At 30 yards top scorer was Barb Breider with a 190‑point total; in second was Leslie Blietz with a 188‑point total, and Mary O'Donnell third with a 160‑point total. Barb Breider, Leslie Blietz, and Mary Ann Wielgos all shot their first perfect ends of the season.

All Maine West archers took the top scores. The top point total for both 20 and 30 yards was taken by Leslie Blietz with a 390‑point total followed by Barb Breider with a 396‑point total and Mary O'Donnell with a 356 and Donna Jones with a 346‑point total.
Other winning archers were Robin Gulder with a 299, Cindy Tomaszeuski with a 298, Sue Schurngbeck with a 282, Cheryl DeMichele with a 279, and Chris Doerner with a 267-point total.
