Fighting Warriors Fall
To Maine South Hawks
Maine West football team was defeated last Friday, Sept. 19, playing against Maine South on the home gridiron by a score of 21 to 7. According to Head Coach James Morel, the Warrior loss was due to Maine South's outstanding team, playing a sound football game and successful stoppage of Maine West's running attack.
The game would have gone to the Warriors with three touchdowns except one of Scott Unger's touchdowns was called back and Maine West's last play, which was an 85-yard run ended on the 1-yard line when the game ended. However, Maine West proved their strength playing against Evanston Sept. 13 at Evanston by defeating a top ranked Evanston team with a score of 20-18. In their season opener against Prospect, Maine West was defeated on home ground by a score of 13-14 on Friday, Sept. 5, in a close game.
This year's promising players are Scott Unger playing the tailback position and Bob Zuccarini playing quarterback on offense.
On defense Jamie Lopoto plays defensive end and Bob Smith linebacker. Tonight Maine West will be playing Glenbrook North on Glenbrook's home gridiron.
Glenbrook is currently rated number one in the state. They have won 15 games straight, and the past varsity teams haven't lost a game since 1973. Last year Glenbrook won the state football championship so tonight's game should prove to be an exciting one.
Maine West's Homecoming game will be against Maine East on Friday, Oct. 3, starting at 6 p.m. So far this season Maine East has not lost a game. They possess strong senior players and have good team speed.
The outcome of the game, according to Coach Morel, will depend on how the tempo of the game goes. Maine West will go into tonight's game with a record of two losses and one victory.
