The Illinois Association of Teachers of English recently recognized the poetry of five Maine West students. The poems were published in the February issue of the Illinois English Bulletin.

Poems selected included "Getting to Know You, I Discover" by Beth Bouman '76, "Excitement" by Alison Hamilton '76 and an untitled poem by Janet Henrikson '77. Honorable mentions were "I Watched" by Gayle Grzebieniak '77 and "Remembering" by Simone Vrastiak '78.

Every year teachers throughout Illinois submit samples of student writing to the Illinois Association of Teachers of English. A selected panel (this year, the Department of English at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb) judges these entries. Then, they choose the writings to be published in the organization's spring issue of the Illinois English Bulletin.
