School Participation Needs Improvement
This year's musical presented by the Maine West students was Oklahoma! created by Rodgers and Hammerstein. This musical presented a terrific opportunity for the students, faculty, and parents to demonstrate their school spirit and loyalty.
Surprisingly enough, though, the general audience lacked a few in number. When you think of all the students involved in this presentation, the relatives of these students, and the fact that it was a major musical presented on the stage and television, its hard to understand why there were any empty seats at all.
Some logical explanations might fall in part to the prices. Two‑fifty, which was the top price, might be your entire allowance; but it was every bit worth it. The actors and actresses filled the stage with intense drama and excitement and kept the audience laughing. This was all done superbly.
Another reason may have been work conflicts or (as far as the Thursday night presentation) school may have been the major problem.
These productions along with other student activities are there for a purpose - education and to entertain the student body and friends.
The support of these activities is essential by each and every one of us. No one, personally, is to be blamed for lack of participation at school events, but each person can help. Think about all the work and time students and faculty put into activities to stimulate student awareness. Only with the help of concerned individuals can our school be successful.
