West Fans Disappoint Team at Final Game
By SUE SZILAGYI
This year's basketball season ended in a tension‑filled game with the Warrior cagers losing to Hersey in the sectional playoff. Every basketball game I have attended this year was exciting, complete with cheering by fans and find playing by the team. However, at the game against Hersey I was disappointed for the first time this year. The fine playing by the team still remained, but the fans were pitiful in comparison.
The Hersey fans showed enthusiasm throughout the game. In fact, the Hersey fans were going strong 15 minutes before the game even started. The Maine West fans, however, sat close to silent as if they were dumbfounded by the fact they were even present at the game.
Among the excuses I heard for the lack of enthusiasm was "Save the cheering for the game." As the night progressed and still the fans remained unexcited, I heard a second excuse: "We're saving the cheering for a good play."
The game ended, and still the fans were as excited as they had been when they first came in; they weren't. The whole attitude of the West fans was disgusting. While Hersey's voice could be heard throughout the game, the Maine West fans sat as if they were ashamed they were from Maine West. In the future I hope that Maine West fans will show their pride in their school and their team.
